What Makes Our Infant Program Different?
Our program is dedicated to bringing comfort and joy to every infant’s day. Our employees genuinely enjoy experiencing the development of the personalities that emerge during their time in this program.
The most important factor to take into consideration when deciding where to enroll your child is the ratio of babies-to-teachers. This ratio represents the availability of teachers when your child needs a diaper change, a bottle or soothing. In addition to having your child’s necessities met, a lower baby-to-teacher ration means a much larger opportunity for affection and interactions that lead to developmental milestones
Our Children’s Center stands out from all other local providers because we employ more teachers, ensuring our infant room has a 2-to-1 ratio of babies-to-teachers, rather than Connecticut’s minimum requirement of 4-to-1.
How does the OCC Support Infant’s Growth?
Our infant program is committed to providing a safe and loving environment for babies. Our caring staff gives the babies an opportunity to participate in daily experiences that stimulate brain development during the first 12 months of their lives. We offer a nurturing, organized, attractive, bright and functional infant classroom. This unique classroom offers a flexible floor plan allowing infants a place to grow and explore under the guidance of a certified, educated and highly experienced staff. We expose the infants to a wide variety of textures and patterns in addition to developmentally appropriate materials and equipment carefully arranged into activity areas which provide a progression for the younger, non-mobile infants to those crawling or beginning to walk.

Five Areas of Focus
These areas of focus in the infant room give your baby endless opportunities to learn and grow.
Communicating With Others
OCC helps your infant learn to engage with others.
We talk with your child; communicate verbally and through non-verbal gestures; tell stories and sing songs to model conversational skills; and use picture books to build association between sounds, objects and words.
Building Brain Power
OCC prepares your infant to think and reason.
We help your child explore the concepts of cause-and-effect, trial-and-error, and object permanence through play; provide a variety of materials of different colors, sizes, textures, and shapes; and encourage the use of all five senses to discover the world.
Making New Friends
OCC lays the foundation for your infant to develop trusting relationships.
We respond to your baby with sensitivity and attention; use words, facial expressions, and eye contact to communicate; and use family photos to promote self-awareness and provide continuity with your child’s home.
Growing a Healthy Body
OCC helps your infant improve mobility and coordination.
We support your baby as he or she rolls from side-to-side and learns to crawl, stand, and walk; support the development of motor skills with blocks and shape boards; and meet your child’s individual needs for rest and nutrition.
OCC encourages your child to express individuality.
We provide paint, crayons, and other tools that promote artistic exploration and creativity; support imaginative play with photo cards and puppets; and encourage self-expression through movement and music.
