Toddler Program

Our Children’s Center Offers 2 Toddler Programs

As toddlers develop friendships, self-esteem, and curiosity, our Toddler care program will help them explore their world in a safe and nurturing environment. By providing two different classrooms, our teachers are able to nurture the development of a toddler from 1 to 3.5 years old, a range of time where major developments occur and a love of learning takes form.

Toddler 1 (T1) Age Ranges: 12 Months to 2.5 Years
Toddler 2 (T2) Age Ranges: 22 Months to 3.5 Years

Our Toddler 1 and 2 Curriculum

Toddler 1 (T1): In addition to caring for your toddler, everything we do is designed for learning. Our unique T1 early childhood curriculum is based on the philosophy that children learn best through hands-on experiences. Each day is filled with fun activities that excite and help young toddlers develop in ways that give them the comfort and confidence to grow and develop both cognitively and socially.

Toddler 2 (T2): At children approach 2 years old, they make new discoveries daily. They begin to express their independence, our program introduces them to a world of learning, sharing, and exploring. Our approach in the T2 classroom engages young minds with the early learning fundamentals they’ll need as they continue on to preschool, with a rich blend of music, art, and dramatic play. Everything we do in T2 is designed to prepare your child for preschool education.

5 Areas of Focus for Toddler 1 and 2 Education at OCC

Our five areas of focus give your child endless opportunities to learn and grow. Depending on which toddler classroom your child is in, Toddler 1 or 2, we adapt the focus to support and advance their development.

1. Communicating With Others
Toddler 1: OCC encourages your toddler to interact with others. We use storytelling and word games to help your child practice imitating and responding, asking questions, and following simple directions; provide practice naming familiar items; and support rich vocabulary development.
Toddler 2: OCC helps your child increase language skills. We stimulate vocabulary development by prompting imitation and repetition of words and sentences; build alphabet recognition through play with letters and writing centers; and strengthen conversation skills with group sharing and reading experiences.

2. Building Brain Power
Toddler 1: OCC helps your toddler begin to learn about the world. We provide opportunities to identify basic colors and shapes; bring concepts of cause-and-effect to life through storytelling, music, and art; and model and encourage your child to practice sorting and matching.
Toddler 2: OCC immerses your child in experiences designed to expand the mind. We encourage investigation and problem solving; provide opportunities to practice sorting, matching and categorizing; and use blocks and math cards to teach counting, number identification, and patterning.

3. Making New Friends
Toddler 1: OCC supports your toddler in growing socially and emotionally. We encourage interactions with other children in group activities; guide the development of sharing and listening skills; model how to express emotions appropriately; and guide your child to learn classroom routines.
Toddler 2: OCC helps your child experience a sense of community. We support cooperative play; use whole- and small-group activities to model sharing, communication, and cooperation; and demonstrate how to recognize others’ feelings and respond appropriately.

4. Growing a Healthy Body
Toddler 1: OCC provides ways for your toddler to gain increased body awareness. We teach body parts through stories, song, and rhyme; promote self-care skills such as feeding, cleaning, and dressing; and support large-motor development and eye-hand coordination through a variety of activities such as kicking balls, tossing, writing, drawing, and lacing.
Toddler 2: OCC coaches your child to develop new physical abilities. We strengthen large-motor skills with riding equipment, balls, and movement activities; improve fine-motor and eye-hand coordination through pouring, stringing, and cutting activities; develop coordination using beanbags, hula hoops, and balance beams; and help children learn to serve themselves at meal times.

5. Nurturing Creativity
Toddler 1: OCC helps your toddler develop individual talents. We encourage pretending and role-playing through play with props; support individual expression through participation in group activities; and promote self-expression through art and music.
Toddler 2: OCC encourages your child to express individuality. We support pretend play and role-playing with props and costumes; encourage creative expression through age-appropriate art materials; and stimulate imagination through storytelling and block-building.
